How Many Google Reviews Does an HVAC Company Need to Rank in Florida? A 91-City Answer
Titusville, United States - September 21, 2026 / L3ad Solutions /
L3ad Solutions, the Titusville, Florida marketing company that publishes the Florida Local Search Index, has released The State of HVAC Search in Florida 2026, a measurement of what it takes for an air conditioning company to reach page one of Google in 91 Florida cities.
On July 29, 2026, the index recorded the top 20 Google results for HVAC contractors in every one of the 91 cities, spanning all 67 counties: 1,772 open business listings and 266 top-ranked websites, each crawled for structured data. Every figure in the report is a direct observation from the Google Places API rather than an estimate or a survey.
The typical top-ranked HVAC company carries 259 reviews
The median top-20 HVAC company in a Florida city carries 259 Google reviews. In 50 of the 91 cities, three quarters of page one rates 4.9 stars or better, and in 88 cities at least 4.8. Of the 266 ranking websites, 85 percent carry LocalBusiness structured data, the highest adoption of the 12 trades the index tracks. Plumbers in the same index sit at a typical 115 reviews and roofers at 76, which makes HVAC the hardest home-service trade in the state to break into.
The bar changes by 60x from one city to the next
The statewide figure hides the finding that matters most to an owner. Four metros run above 1,100 typical reviews among their top 20 results: Sarasota at 1,236, Tampa at 1,170, Fort Myers at 1,141, and Orlando at 1,131. At the other end, Opa Locka sits at 18, Key West at 19, and Homestead at 39. Eleven of the twelve most open HVAC markets in Florida are in Miami-Dade or Broward County, and the rating floor there is as high as anywhere else.
Grouped by region, the Southwest coast, covering Lee, Collier, Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties, is the hardest HVAC territory in Florida on every measure, with a median of 461 reviews and 19 established rivals per city. Miami-Dade and Broward, with 26 of the 91 cities, run at a median of 106 reviews.
"A company with 300 reviews is in the bottom half of page one in Tampa and has cleared the field in Homestead," said Nathaniel Curran, founder of L3ad Solutions. "Owners keep asking how many reviews they need, and the honest answer has always been that it depends on the city. Now the number for every city is published, and anyone can check their own market against it."
Rating is a service problem before it is a marketing problem
Only Key West, with a floor of 4.1, has a top-20 rating floor below 4.7. A company rating 4.6 sits below three quarters of page one almost everywhere in the state. The report's guidance to owners is to treat the rating as a service-quality metric first: fix the callback rate, the arrival window, and the invoice surprise, then ask for reviews.
One number almost nobody tracks
Of the 455 top-ranked HVAC websites recorded statewide, 144, or 32 percent, link from their Google Business Profile with a tracking tag in the URL. Nearly one in three of the companies that rank are measuring how many calls and visits the profile sends them. Among the companies that do not rank, almost none are.
"Tagging the profile link takes five minutes and costs nothing," Curran said. "Its adoption rate on page one is not a coincidence. The companies that measure are the companies that rank."
